# Job Fit Assessment Patterns

Session context: July 25, 2026. User (Sage Stockmans, SyntraPXL Full Stack grad) sent three job postings for fit assessment.

## The Assessment Framework

When a user asks "Do I fit for this job?", deliver a structured fit assessment BEFORE writing any application material. The user values honesty over encouragement.

### Categories of Fit

1. **Strong Match** — apply immediately with tailored materials
2. **Borderline / Reach** — apply but acknowledge gaps honestly in the letter
3. **Stretch Fit** — apply only if willing to bridge the gap (e.g., learn a new language/framework first)
4. **No Match** — advise against applying; suggest alternative learning path if interested

### Signals to Watch For

- **"Geen specifieke studievereisten" + "Ervaring: niet van belang"** (VDAB) vs. detailed employer profile demanding "sterke ervaring" and advanced architecture. This is a contradictory posting. Flag it.
- **HBO5 diploma (SyntraPXL) vs. bachelor/master requirement.** In the Flemish system, SyntraPXL Full Stack is HBO5 (professional higher education). Some employers accept "gelijkwaardig door ervaring," but as a fresh grad, the user has no experience to compensate yet.
- **Domain mismatch is more important than stack mismatch.** PHP/Laravel → C#/.NET is bridgeable with study. Web dev → geospatial ML/AI is a different discipline requiring months of retraining.
- **"Knelpuntberoep" (shortage profession)** shifts power toward the applicant. Even if slightly underqualified, shortage roles are worth applying to.
- **Locality is a genuine advantage.** For roles in Hasselt/Beringen/Kuringen, the user's location and car ownership are strong logistical selling points.

### Example Assessments from This Session

#### Example A: Industrial Automation Software Engineer (Beringen)
- Salary: EUR 40-60k
- Stack: industrial automation (SCADA, PLC integration, C#/.NET)
- Requirements: bachelor/master IT or equivalent experience
- **Verdict: Borderline / Reach.** Location, language, work eligibility perfect. Education level and tech-domain mismatch real. Advise: apply but frame PHP backend experience as problem-solving foundation; express genuine interest in industrial automation.

#### Example B: Backend Developer — Build-Software (Beringen)
- VDAB: "Geen specifieke studievereisten," "Ervaring: niet van belang"
- Employer profile: C#/.NET, Clean Architecture, DDD, CQRS, "sterke ervaring"
- **Verdict: Stretch Fit.** Contradictory posting opens door to juniors but demands mid-level architecture skills. Advise: build tiny ASP.NET Core demo project before applying; frame PHP backend as transferable foundation.

#### Example C: GeoAI Engineer — MyCSN (Hasselt)
- Stack: Python geodata (geopandas, rasterio, shapely, PDAL/laspy), QGIS, ML for remote sensing
- **Verdict: No Match.** Completely different discipline from web dev. Requires GIS/geomatics background + ML specialization. Advise: 6-12 months retraining if genuinely interested; do not apply now.

### Tone for Fit Assessments

- Be direct. The user prefers honesty.
- Use bullet points for readability.
- Always include a "Bottom Line" summary.
- When advising against applying, offer an alternative path if one exists.
